Longan (Diamond River)

Planting: Pit size: 75 cm3. Spacing: 6 m×6 m. Prefers slightly acidic soil.
Manuring: Balanced NPK applied 3–4 times a year. Responds well to organic mulch.
Irrigation: Regular irrigation is vital during flowering and "fruit-filling" stages.
Importance: Highly productive; popular because it can fruit twice a year in Kerala.
Nutrient Value: Excellent source of Vitamin C and polyphenols.
Medicinal Value: Used for relaxation, improving sleep, and as a blood tonic.
Ecological Value: Dense foliage makes it an excellent nesting site for birds.
Ornamental Value: High. Rounded, dense evergreen canopy with attractive golden-brown fruits.
