Jaboticaba (Sabara)

Planting: Pit size: 60 cm3. Spacing: 4 m×4 m. Prefers slightly acidic, rich moist soil.
Manuring: Acid-loving; use organic compost mixed with coffee grounds or specialized fertilizers.
Irrigation: High. Soil must never dry out; induces multiple fruiting cycles.
Importance: Fruits up to 5 times a year in Kerala’s climate. High novelty value.
Nutrient Value: Skin is loaded with anthocyanins and anti-aging compounds.
Medicinal Value: Used to treat asthma and diarrhoea; high antioxidant content supports immunity.
Ecological Value: Long-lived (up to 50 years); deep rooting system helps prevent soil erosion.
